Life Following Transplantation

Print

Life following transplantation is a richly rewarding experience. Many of our members have taken up their life as normal following their operation.

Many of us have returned to work or school or university and are involved in sporting activities from golf to football. In short we are able to enjoy life again.

Being a member of the association has also allowed us to use our experience to help other people in the same situation, and has also helped us to make life-long friendships with fellow transplant recipients and their families.

Mechanical Heart Programme

In 2005 our Association donated substantial funding (€160,000) to Prof. Freddie Wood to assist in the establishment of the LVAD (left ventricular assist device mechanical heart programme) in the Mater Hospital.

This programme has been hugely successful and we are delighted to report that the Left Ventricular Assist Device is continually used to help maintain patients prior to transplantation. It is the intention of the Association in the near future to discuss the further development of this program and to pledge our fund raising efforts to the Heart and Lung Transplant program.

We would like to thank all our members and friends for their generous fundraising/sponsorship throughout the year.
