E-mail Print PDF

2010 for whatever reason has seen the worst decline in organ donation on record. There were only 58 deceased organ donors in 2010, this was 35% less than 2009 when we had 90 donors, leading to 243 transplant operations. This was 92 more transplant operations than 2010 when the total number of transplants were 151.

The following is a comparison of the figures of 2009/2010.

Our Association is delighted that at last after many years of campaigning we will now have a National Transplant Office to drive forward the changes which are needed to move with the times. Prof Jim Egan can be assured of our associations support and cooperation as he endevours to make the changes that are required to create a new dawn in organ donation and transplantation in Ireland. 151 people received a life saving organ transplant last year thanks to the genorisity of their donors, their families and loved ones, we and they are forever indebted to all donors and their families for the Gift of Life.
