In the last 6 months, the number of people who ‘like’ our Facebook page has increased from 900 to in excess of 1,200. Hopefully our new followers are enjoying the content and have found our posts to be of interest or some benefit to them.

Do you know anyone who might find the IHLTA Facebook page useful? Perhaps someone awaiting a transplant, or indeed someone in the immediate post-transplant period?

Although we endeavour to update this website on a regular basis, the Facebook page is the most up-to-date platform through which you can engage with the IHLTA. On it, we strive to respond to messages within a few moments and content is uploaded several times per week.

Ken on the Run!

We would like to congratulate Ken Mulkerrins who recently participated in a 5k which took place in St. Anne's Park, Dublin.

Ken, who underwent a heart transplant some 6 months ago, took part in the event to raise awareness of organ donation. He also raised funds for the High Dependency Unit of the Mater Hospital.

Well done to Ken, who is pictured below.

A Big Thank You to the McCoy Family

Below pictured are Daria McCoy and her sons, who recently took part a night walk of Benbulben Mountain, Co. Sligo organised by Sligo/Leitrim Mountain Rescue in the name of organ donation awareness.

Daria's husband had a double lung transplant.

We would like to sincerely thank them for their efforts, which attracted attention from the Sligo Champion newspaper. Events like this go a long way in spreading the ever-important message regarding organ donation.

"Transplant Chat"

Would you be interested in a "coffee morning" with other transplant recipients?

Based on feedback we have received, the IHLTA are currently seeking to gauge interest in social gatherings for our members.

This might consist of meeting for coffee (possibly in the Mater on clinic mornings) or on more 'neutral' venues, even at weekends. The latter would appeal for members outside Dublin, who could meet in their own time (at weekends, etc).

Such gatherings would not necessarily consist of humdrum medical chat, but rather an opportunity for individuals with a shared interest to meet and socialise.

We are open to suggestions on this subject. If you have an idea or would be interested in hosting an event in your area, please message this page or email secretary@ihlta.com
